Schisandra is also known as Five-Flavour-Seed (Fruit), as a Prince of Far East. Five flavours refers to its traditionally recognised ancient Chinese FIVE: wood (acid flavour), fire (bitter flavour), soil (sweet flavour), gold (spicy flavour), and water (salty flavour).
It has been a long time used in Chinese medicine*, mainly to enhance the health of kidney, liver, eyes, and can sober up.
