Jiaogulan is often referred to by its scientific name Gynostemma Pentaphyllum is an herb native to Thailand and other various parts of South East Asia which made its mark in China where it has been consumed for centuries. In China, its ability to prolong life led to it being called the ‘herb of immortality’.
In many Asian regions, people have been drinking Jiaogulan tea each day before going to work to increase their levels of endurance and strength while they also drank it in the evening to relieve their fatigue and to help them get a good night’s sleep. Recent studies have found that Jiaogulan might help to:
- Lower the risk of colorectal cancer: improve the inflamed gut barrier (by Khan, et al., 2019)
- Lower the risk of heart disease/ atherosclerosis (Aktan et al., 2003)
- Anti-inflammatory (Yang, et al., 2013)
